Greetings All,
It's been a pleasure, as well as, an education reading your advice and information in the past. I am hoping that someone can help me date my Buffet Crampon Bass Clarinet. It is a older low A model with a serial number in the 2900 range. Accordian to the Sneezy guide for Buffet clarinets that would put it around 1929. I am not sure if that number sequence is for all Buffet clarinet types or only for the Bb models. Does anyone know if the Buffet list applies to their Bass Clarinets? I thank you once again for all I have learned from you. Sincerely. Dave.

I dated a bass clarinet once...hmmm... Interesting experience. I am still having nightmares about that one.

Clarinets pitched lower than the A clarinet arecommonly called "Harmony" clarinets. I don't have serial numbers for harmony clarinets in that low a range, so the lists here won't help.

I talked to my bass and he said he would take her out on a date only if she will play second line. He is doesn't want to play second fiddle to anyone. Can she dance?

Bass players are not weird, we're easily amused. If you had to play 24 measures of the same note, or sit through way too many measures of rest, you'd feel the same way. (I'm not angry, by the way, I hear that ALL the time from friends, colleages, strangers, etc...)

Dating a bass is rather impractical. They seem really quiet, and once you get them talking they keep repeating themselves. Okay, lame joke. Sorry, I'll stop now.

Dave -
Back to your question -- is this really a bass clarinet, or a clarinet in A? If it's a bass, I don't understand what you mean by "low A model." If what you mean is an A clarinet marked "L.P." (for low pitch), then the regular Sneezy list will give you the date of manufacture.
Best regards.
