Fake. It's a B12 copy and there are tons of them:

The description of the one in the original link reads:

Body Material: ABS Resin
Surface Material: Nickel Plated
Number of Keys: 17
Model Number: R13
Place of Origin: China (Mainland)

Former oboe finisher
Howarth of London
1998 - 2010

The opinions I express are my own.

"Body Material: ABS Resin "

I sometimes wonder if the pictures are fake or the instruments or both.
(pictures of a genuine instrument, but the shipment contains a slightly different horn, or the pictures show the actual counterfeit instrument, or your box contains the horn's weight in bricks)

In any case, so fishy that it stinks to heaven.

Why they market a B12 copy as an R13 is anyone's guess!

I checked out the link that Chris noted.
There's is a very interesting one down a bit on the list. (30th item)

"Buffet buffet b16 single-reed tube clarinet original ! $US 1,033.70"

(and may I add) With cutie pie Chinese girl.

There is a lot of detailed information further down included this concerning returns.

"We do our best to serve our customers, the best we can. We will refund you if you return the items within 7 days of your receipt of the items for any reason. However, the buyer should make sure that the items returned are in their original conditions. If the items are damaged or lost when they are returned, the buyer will be responsible for such damage or loss. And we will not give the buyer a full refund. The buyer should try to file a claim against the logistic company to recover the cost of damage or loss. The buyer will be responsible for the shipping fees to return the goods"

Even though I only have 7 days to pull it off , I'm thinking of buying this 'beaut' clarinet then keeping the cutie pie girl and returning the instrument.
Or am I just dreaming :)

Those of you whom shop on the auction site that we can't mention should be careful - tons of fakes out there.

Anyone actually try a real Buffet B12?

It's the most worthless clarinet I've ever tried. No possible way to play this clarinet in tune at all. Yes, why try to copy this?????

I love the comments of people that supposedly bought this clarinet.
1) good

2)very good

3)excellent

4)good

These comments are obviously fakes too. Where could you find four people who all have the same dumb and minimal comments?

You can pay people to write comments / reviews / like / rate on facebook / amazon / google+, etc. Check out some of the services on offer on fiver.com some are quite hilarious. They can even create video review that looks pretty professional. One of the gigs was a girl to pretend to be all over you on Facebook to make your girlfriend / ex jealous...

I'd imagine in China it's even easier / cheaper to find such people to do it for you.

@muppie

there was a law suit in NYC where 20 companies got sued for writing fake reviews. I had personally written bad reviews taken off after a day or so. It seems if you want your review to stay longer you can write whatever you want, just label it with 5* ;)

Garth....I could respond to your question but would probably violate one of the BB rules.
Regarding the genuine B12 my opinion is the same as Paul's.
Regarding eBay: I have bought and sold over 200 items there with no significant problems. The main consideration is the Seller's reputation .....same as anywhere else. People tend to forget that it is, after all, an Auction. And, let's not forget that there are Buyers who aren't totally honest too.

This thread is reinforcing my old-fashioned practice of buying "in person." I suspect there are plenty more fakes out there that pose much more of a buyer-beware risk, because they're more plausible-looking in photos and come with more competently-written ads that don't scream "BOGUS!" the way these do.

Kind of ironic that one of the words they use to describe all these instruments is "HOT."

This problem of certain reviews not sticking around while others remain, reminds of my experience with a certain Miami Beach orthopedist. I went to him some 4 years ago about a serious issue with an injured hip. He proceeded to insult me, belittle me and then leverage me into having an outdated operation with him. A little bit of research proved that his bad attitude had already come to the light of hospital administration and he had been compelled to go to anger management class. (He had apparently treated hospital personel in the same insensitive way). Additionally, the type of operation he continues to do was no longer part of cutting edge medicine and I was referred by people in the know to an orthopedist in Broward who was up to date, and who took an entirely successful and different course of treatment. Of course, I tried to post a negative review of this Miami Beach doctor on Yelp and other appropriat review sites, and to date, none of those reviews have made it to the light of day.

A phony B12 clarinet might actually function well after an expensive complete overhaul, but a real Buffet would actually prove to be less expensive in the long run. I think my 80's R13 was $900 and the partial overhaul done by a recognized expert was under $300. So for $1,200 total one can have a fine Buffet that has real breeding and can possibly be resold for about as much as it cost.

I finally got the joke; went to "that site" and searched for soprano sax. OMG what showed up on left bar for suggestions.

I rechecked the list and the cutie pie Chinese girl holding a Clarinet seems to have disappeared :( Perhaps someone claimed her :)

It is a lot easier to duplicate. The in-tune instruments are MUCH harder to copy!

maybe b/c there is no undercutting and poly-cylindrical bore involved.

Why to copy? Easy to manufacture, cheap plastic and inflated price due to name recognition.
