I can slap tongue relatively well on bass clarinet, but when I attempt the same technique on Bb clarinet, the note either plays incredibly quietly or simply squeaks. (Guess I should mention voicing/squeaking generally isn't a problem on either instrument when I'm tonguing normally.) Realizing the obvious mouthpiece/reed size difference between a Bb bass clarinet and Bb clarinet, how could I go about fixing the problem? What am I doing wrong that isn't transferring over to the smaller embouchure?

Do you use a significantly harder mouthpiece/reed setup on soprano clarinet?

Thanks for the link, Dan. I was unaware of Sean's videos — I know what I'll be doing in the practice room today.

I play a 2.5 reed/Clark Fobes CF mouthpiece on bass and a 3.5 reed/M13 lyre on soprano. I tried slap tonguing on soprano using a 3 strength reed, but it didn't really seem to make a difference. Maybe it needs to be a softer reed than a 3? Thanks for the link to the video, I've seen it before but haven't tried using that technique, maybe I should. Perhaps I just need to practice slap tonguing more in general, maybe it's something that will figure itself out with some more time.
