Reeds (can you stand one more on this)

I was floating around and happened by the Superial Reed site. Are these reeds really ALL THAT? They are very expensive compared to other reeds but it might be worth it if they are as good as they say.

Here is the link to the site. http://www.superial.com/

It is pretty interesting.

I just picked up my old clarinet and have been playing on Rico Grand Concert Selects. 20 years ago I was not impressed with any Rico and used to use Mitchell Lurie Reeds way back then. Are ML's still considered to be a generally better reed than most Rico's.

Well thanks for any info...

I know that this is one of those non answers, but the only way to really know is to try the reeds and find out what works for you. I know of reeds, mouthpieces, etc, that people have recommended to me that I have not liked at all. Keep in mind that if you go to the web sites for Vandoren, Rico, Glotin, Zonda, etc. each will tell you that they are the best reed available. Each will have someone who loves and/or endorses it. It is all about marketing. After all, the write ups got you interested, right? As to Rico ML are considered a step up from a standard Rico or Rico Royal, but the Grand Concert are aiming for the some market at Vandoren.

Tried the Alexander Superial Classique and played a concert on it last night. Very different to most others but well worth a try. Very inconsistent though, particularly in hardness, and at least half a strength softer than equivalent hardness indicators of most competitors eg. Vandoren.

Worth spending a bit of money exploring the Classique. I have not tried the others.

Thanks for the info - I understand I would have to try on my gear etc,

I was just looking for somebody who had tried them and judging by the response not too many people have been willing to shell out the $$$ for these reeds.

I may wait a bit - I have just picked up the clarinet again and have put my tooth through 2 reeds this weekend. After this passes I will give them a try.
