we had state solo contest today... and it could not have been any better for me. I was in 6 events: percussion choir (bass drum & triangle), bass clarinet solo, Bb clarinet duet, sax trio (tenor), Clarinet quartet (bass clar), and Bb solo. We got I ratings on all of them. I missed 1 point on my bass clar solo, and 2 points on my Bb solo (the Adagio from the mozart concerto, dont know how i managed that). We got perfect scores on our clarinet duet and clarinet quartet. and we got Outstanding Performance on our clarinet quartet!!!!! each of the 7 centers in the building picks an OP for the day, then in april or may they have a recital in Ames that all the outstanding performers go to and play their contest piece. Our saxophone quartet (that I wasnt in) would have gotten OP, if they weren't 2 seconds short of the minimum time. We got a note in the packet with our ballots that the judges decision for OP was between "our clarinet groups". meaning our duet and quartet! I think he picked the quartet because the 2 of us that did the duet were both in the quartet. So this is so incredibly great, i'm unbelievably excited. excuse me for being giddy.. but this was an awesome way to end my last contest

Congrats, but how can you participate in so many events, in SC they limit us to a certain number of events. I think its like 2 small events and one big, like a quartet or something.

Ashley:
You have certainly had a very eventful day!! Congratulations to you and all of your fellow students on their accomplishments. It is a little difficult for me to believe that you were so HEAVILY involved in so many events. This would seem to me to be a terriffic amount of stress on one so young. But, I guess the young are more able to bear the stress than the older ones. Any way, I am very happy for you. Keep up the good work!!

It's not that hard to believe. I played a clarinet solo, clarinet duet, and clarinet quartet on the band solo and ensemble day, and then the following week played a viola solo and quartet for the string solo and ensemble. (earned perfect scores on clarinet duet b/c of my partner, division 1 on quartet and solo, superior rating on viola solo and quartet). So, Ashley must have done a really good job) I wish I could have heard your performances, I'm sure they were awesome! Did you guys have the same judge for all of your clarinet events? I think our judge was pretty easy this year, hehe. It must be nice to end your solo and ensemble for your senior year like that. Congratulations!
