I have an old Carl Fisher New York clarinet. It uses the Albert system keys, and in the key of C. It has a wrap-around register key to the front, blue needle springs and a pinned crack in the barrel. Any ideas to what it could be worth? It needs a repad job too, but no one around here can help me with that. I'd appreciate any responses.

Oh yeah! I forgot - it also has a Buffet wood mouthpiece. It is well used. No other Bb mouthpiece will fit in it. Thanks.

Hi, David -
I bought a plastic Whittle a couple of years ago. It's an Albert, was missing the E/B key cup. Otherwise in fair shape. I paid around $70.00 for it and fixed it up. It's a so-so horn that, to me, is worth about what I paid for it - to someone else, who knows? What'd you pay for yours?
My guess is that that's about what they're worth :]

Any competent clarinet repair tech should be able to repad it regardless of the fact that it is an Albert system C clarinet. If they can't, then either they just don't want to mess with it or they aren't really competent.

You're right, Dee; a repad's a repad :| The only question is the customer's: Do I want to pay to get this horn fixed or just keep it as a conversation piece? The only reason to turn down a repad job is that the repadder doesn't want to (or, can't?) do it. If they can't do it they should take up another line of work.
