Hi,
Does anyone know of ways to digitally emulate the noise/artifacts from various woodwind instruments?

No electronic system can yet reproduce the transients and the instrument's characteristic way of moving from one note to the next. Still less can electronics match the characteristic tone colors that vary from note to note, or the way various intervals are bound together.
You may just have to hire live players.

You can always sample real ones but it still won't be the same as real ones being played by real people.

As you probably know, a synthesizer is the best way to imitate the sound of a woodwind. Imitation will always be just that, imitation. However, consider your audience. Will they be able to ascertain the difference? Go from there to find the digital difference you are looking for.

Greetings gentlemen!
Note that I'm not looking to emulate the instruments themselves, but rather the noise/artifacts that are sometimes heard when musicians get sloppy. Or maybe too excited? I find these noises/artifacts comforting, kinda like vinyl crackles.

A 10 minute sampling of any of my practice sessions would give you enough sloppy keywork and strange sounds to work with for years.

I have a few friends studying electronic music. That is in the sense of trying to create sounds (and music), not just use eletronic instruments, etc. They often make the "brains" of software etc.
From what I understand they can basically create any sound. A lot of their studies are math and physics and not just music. But I imagine it would take far longer to do this so is not really worth it? I guess they could have a recording of any sound, analyze it and then able to recreate it synthetically.
