 Buffet Show Room
Author: srattle

Hello,

I'm going to be visiting New York in December and I'm really interested in visiting the buffet show room there. I am hoping to try out some instruments and possibly buy a set (in the case that I find a set that works well for me)

Does anyone know the best way to manage this? What the best contact might be?

Thanks a lot!

Sacha

Remember that you cannot actually purchase an instrument from the showroom - you have to arrange the transaction through a retailer.

I use Wright music in Port Jefferson.

Don't forget that (if it's the same as in the UK) you will be charged VAT and possibly other duties when you bring them back.
Wouldn't it be better to get them from Buffet Paris and avoid all these problems (and probably have a bigger choice as well) though I think that as in USA the actual transaction would have to be completed through a French retail dealer.

I agree with rmk. Wright music is a great shop to work with. They are in Port Washington.

You may find a wonderful clarinet there (one of my employees did). The clarinets first go to Jacksonville. I don't know if the clarinets for the NYC atelier are "preselected", as they are by some of the vendors that sponsor this web site.

Thanks,

I am actually also planning to go to the buffet factory in Paris, but wont be able to until January at the earliest, as I am booked with concerts.

In NY, I am hoping to try out some instruments to get a feel again of what Buffet has to offer (I moved away from buffet a couple of years ago, and I'm feeling a little out of the loop).

If I find an amazing instrument there, I would be willing to find a way to buy it, but first and foremost I am interesting in play testing some.

Does anyone know the best way to contact them?
Thanks
Sacha

By all means, go! It is a wonderful place, and Laurie Orr, the showroom manager, is one of the loveliest, nicest people you will ever meet. I adore going to the showroom and trying out everything and hanging out with her! Just send her an email through the website and set up a time to swing by! (And DO try the Divine while you're there! :) )

Yes, Laurie Orr is wonderful, send her an email and she will give you the particulars for a visit. I purchased a couple of very nice instruments there a couple of years ago, selected there, and then paid for through my authorized Buffet dealer.

Get there early to get the good stuff before it goes!

Chicken sate is my favourite, then prawn toast, sticky chicken legs, cocktail sausages on sticks, pizza slices, spring rolls, ... couldn't care much about the raw carrot sticks, celery, humus dips or anything remotely healthy like that, so I'll bypass that lot and it's straight onto the selection of cakes.

That's my favourite kind of Buffet!
