Hi,
Has anybody heard of this French maker, I have just picked up this lovely old blackwood? Boehm system clarinet- barrel less- identical to the early Buffet I have, this has a serial number of 3956.
The only markings are on the bell- J Henry Besançon, if there were other markings like on the joints, they have worn away. I would appreciate any input on this.
Thanks very much

Langwill lists a J Henry Besancon who carried on business in Lyon. Succeeded in 1868 by Marc Jandard. Nothing further reported about either of them except an address. That's likely a really old horn.

According to the Rousellet/Watel Golden Book of the French Clarinet (Livre d'Or de la Clarinette Française, 2012), Jules Henry of Besançon was a stencil name c. 1910 for clarinets made by Adrien Thibouville of Ivry-la-Bataille.
I've heard very good things about Thibouville clarinets, so this could be a great find.
