I have recently bought a Backun Grenadilla Protégé, all my mouthpieces are too small and without recorking which I would rather not do I am at a loss to know what to get. I am only a grade 6 or 7 player but I do like a nice open sound and play on a Jody Jazz or Yamaha 4c on my Selmer S9. Has any one a similar instrument who could make some suggestions.

Have you tried using plumbers tape around the cork of the mouthpiece to thicken it? I've done this with my MoBa and works fine.

Thanks , I should have thought of that as I use plumbers tape on a regular basis on the drones of my bagpipes.

To musicman99
I play now on Selmer S9 and want to buy Backun Protege.
Can you describe difference between clarinets, what is better?
And what your opinion about Jody Jazz mtp in tandem with S9
Thank You!

Voova Doob,
I've played a Protege and own A Selmer clarinet. Well I can tell you the Backun wins hands down. It is a fully professional instrument with a great sound that is free blowing. I find the Selmer too resistant without depth to the tone but that's just me.
