Rhapsody in Blue and L'Histoire du Soldat
Author: cigleris

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick ask, does any of you have the complete parts to the two works mentioned above? I seem to have misplaced my copy of the 1st clt of the Rhapsody and my copy of L'Histoire and I need them for audition prep. Please email me of board if you can help.

Thanks

Peter Cigleris

Peter -

The Debussy orchestral score is at http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Music/Manuscripts/Premiere/. According to Charles Neidich, the clarinet/piano version was prepared quickly and had numerous errors. Debussy meticulously corrected the orchestral score, including the D# (rather than D) 6 bars before the end.

The trio version of the Stravinsky is at http://imslp.org/wiki/Histoire_du_Soldat_%28Stravinsky,_Igor%29. The full version score with Leonard Bernstein's markings is at http://archives.nyphil.org/index.php/artifact/6d90fc2a-08d6-468a-b805-10d936385e4b/fullview. Unfortunately, it's disfigured with obnoxious watermarks, but you can zoom in and move the score around under the marks. The Russian edition, in Russian and French, is linked at http://en.scorser.com/S/Sheet+music/Stravinsky+Igor/-1/1.html.

Good luck.

He needs Rhapsody in Blue, not Debussy.

Peter, if you don't receive these over the weekend, post another message and I can send both of those to you on Tuesday.

The Stravinsky is unfortunately the old Kalmus part, not the nicer Boosey.

That looks more like some sort of band arrangement.

If all Peter needs is the opening solo, this has it.

This is not the same as the Gershwin/Grofe version.

I wouldn't use it for an audition.

Here's the NY Philharmonic archive version of the Gershwin/Grofe score, with disfiguring watermarks http://archives.nyphil.org/index.php/artifact/f9ca2697-58e5-4c85-a8c2-a44f1b82970a/fullview#page/4/mode/2up.

Page 1 of the 1st clarinet part is at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/Rhapsody-in-Blue-1st-B-flat-Clarinet/19388908. The rest of the part is not available at SheetMusicPlus.

The original 1924 acoustic recording with Ross [a/k/a Russ] Gorman is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIWrfW2M91U. The more familiar 1927 electrical recording is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVpZeKheCjA. The 1924 version is a LOT dirtier, and IMO better.

>> The original 1924 acoustic recording <<

Too bad no one else plays it like that.
