I'm looking for a new bass clarinet mouthpiece. I mainly play soprano clar. and use the bass clar. occasionally.
I presently use a Hite, but am interested in the Clark Fobes or a Selmer.
Anyone have any experience with either one?

besides the aforementioned Fobes models you may also give the Behn Ouverture a whirl.
I gravitate between the Ouverture, the Nova and a Bundy signature, depending on what my mouth likes best that day.

I would be more prone to take a serious look at finding the best reed. Your mouthpiece may not be the problem.

When you go to buy the mouthpiece take along the neck from your instrument, to check that the mouthpiece fits properly. I bought a Fobes Debut only to find that the diameter of the tenon was 1 mm less than my neck receiver, so it leaked air. I changed it for a George Bundy Signature number 3 hard rubber, and couldn't be more pleased. It is well worth it's very modest price.

Fobes makes a really nice bass mouthpiece. Response, tone and intonation are all top notch. Selmers can be quite inconsistent. If you try a few you can find one you like.

I play a Roger Garrett Zinner based mouthpiece. Sounds good and it responds evenly the entire range. A bargain for a custom 'piece!

Of course, many of us have used the Selmer BC mouthpiece, C*. Some of them are helped by a little refacing work. When I bought a new Buffet Prestige low C instrument a couple of years ago, I refaced and modified the Buffet mouthpiece that came with it and that works fine.
Try the Selmer C85 BC mouthpieces. If they are like the clarinet ones, they could be very good.

If we're to include refaced mouthpieces as well as "off-the-shelf" ones, then my vote goes to refaced crystal Pomaricos. I play them on most sizes of clarinets as well as (for classical work only) alto and tenor saxes. They have good interior, baffle and window dimensions which typically don't need to be changed, though the facings are far from satisfactory in most cases.

Where does one get a crystal mpc refaced? I have a Selmer Clarion HS** that is unplayable. I would like get it refaced, if possible.

I bought a Leblanc mpc from Scott Kurtzweil that he had refaced to the same dimensions as a Selmer C*. Works pretty well on my old Bundy bass. One third the cost of a new mpc works for me too.

I used a Selmer C* voiced by David McClune for the past 15 years, used a C** for the previous 35, and have a Fobes RR facing as my backup. I've had many students play on a Selmer C* with a lot of success. I would have them get 3-4 for a trial and choose the best one. All MPs are inconsistant so no two of any make or model will play the same. I suggest you do that same thing. Most mail order stores will send 3-4 for a trial.

I'm fond of Selmer's mouthpieces for bass clarinet. I played a stock C* for years before I came across one refaced by Rick Sayre. I'm now playing a Selmer C85 115, and the Rick Sayre C* is my backup, though they do play quite similarly. I've found Selmer mouthpieces have a certain favorable resistance that other bass mouthpieces don't have, that allows you project without spreading the tone.
