I was scheduled to play a prelude (Baermann Adagio Etude 24)) with piano accompaniment in church this morning. I arrived to find the nice grand piano out in the lobby and the handbell choir rehearsing in its place in the sanctuary. My accompanist apologized about the mix-up and told me we would be substituting organ after having rehearsed with piano. Now, I'm a pretty decent amateur but not a professional that can change things up unrehearsed without consequences. We got a chance to run it once while a bunch of noisy people were milling around talking. I couldn't even hear the organ. I was feeling pretty unnerved about the whole thing.
Well when the time came, it went great. We got so many compliments along with questions about why there aren't more "duets" written for clarinet and organ. I'm thinking of deliberately substituting organ for piano next time.

Glad to hear things went well. Your accompanist must be a real organist, not the dreaded "left-footed Lucy / Lenny" who plays the piano, took a few organ lessons thirty years ago and ignorantly pulls the scharf mixture, the contra-bombarde, the tuba magna....

So, maybe I should go up to the choir loft and play my next "duet" with organ???
