I purchased a Wooden Buffet Evette Clarinet 25 years ago in high school from a buddy for $50. I am trying to find out info on it and to find an insurable value due to my daughter now playing it. It is in excellelent playable condition and the serial number is D101**. I have looked up on charts, but I don't see the "D" with the appropriate number range. What year would it be and where is a good site to find out value, and more info. Also, is it a beginner clarinet? Thanks.

Generally you want to insure an instrument for the cost of an equivalent brand-new version. All of the Evette clarinets were considered to be high-end student / entry-level intermediate clarinets and clarinets in that market segment typically sell new for ~$800-$1400 these days. Some modern day equivalents would be the Leblanc Bliss LB210, Buffet E-11, and Yamaha YCL-450.

According to the serial number list I have, the clarinet was made in 1967. It is a beginner clarinet.
Frequent advice on this Board is to insure instruments for the cost of a new equivalent model. IMNSHO, before you do that, talk to your agent and make sure the insurance company will write you a policy that , in fact, pays that amount. Overinsuring an item is generally not a good idea. You might wind up paying several years for $1,200 insurance only to find that the insurance company depreciates your asset to a much lower amount when you make a claim. Also, before you purchase a policy on the instrument, make sure it isn't already covered, at least for theft, by your household policy.
An Evette of your vintage will typically only bring $100 to $125 on eBay. Personal financial advisors generally recommend insurance only for catastrophic losses. Personally, if the clarinet was mine, I wouldn't bother with insurance.
