Long story short: Found an ancient Harry Pedler metal clarinet at a local rummage sale in the original case for $20, and bought it. Looked like someone stopped playing it 50 years or so ago, and stored it in a garage or barn. Smelled horrible, and has some corrosion on the finger pads, but cleaned up pretty nicely. A one piece body, and original hard rubber mouthpiece.
It obviously needs to be gone over and new pads, etc, but hits all the notes, and a beautiful creation, if you're into the old ones.
(I know...pictures, or it didn't happen... I'll try and get some taken tonight or soon...)
My question is about the mouthpiece. The one that came with it is in excellent shape, and fits my wood Buffet, and plays maybe better than the Vandorens that I have been using. Anyone know anything about a Pedler rubber mouthpiece? Were they Conn units that were stamped with the Pedler name, or something specific to Harry's company? Just wondered if anyone had additional info on the specifics of the one I'm using. For $20, I'd have paid that for the mouthpiece alone had I known it would sound and play so well...
Thanks!
ramsa
Here's some limited info on the company, and the one pictured is not the model I found, but a higher end pro model...
