 Buescher Wood Clarinet

Hi There - I have acquired a beautiful Buescher wood clarinet. I don't know anything about these, and can't seem to find anything about this on the internet. The serial number is 3113. The bell is only stamped "Buescher". Not a 400 series. It is in real nice condition, and came in its original gray case. I have read that the 400 was a Selmer stencil, but can find nothing on this type. Please ask me any questions to help me determine approximately how old this is, as well as the model. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

You're probably aware that Buescher made some fine saxes. Can't help you on the clarinet, tho, other than to say I think you got lucky.

Some pictures would be helpful. I have an old "The Buescher" clarinet in my collection with a wraparound register key--I'd be interested in seeing your Buescher.

Wooden Buescher clarinets not made by Selmer USA are uncommon. I've been trolling eBay for years and haven't seen another like mine come up for sale. Seems Buescher devoted most of its clarinet-making resources to producing Elkhart metal clarinets.

I came across one like your several years ago. The only marking was the stenciling of the brand Buescher on the bell. All parts were original to the instrument by evidence of serial number and like bands on all parts. I finally sold it after having been on the "for sale" shelf for some time. It played remarkably well but I would have graded it as an intermediate not professional clarinet.

I am attempting to add a couple of pictures so that you can get a better idea of what I am talking about. The mouthpiece is "Brilhart", and the ligature is the original "Buescher France", which are not pictured. Again, any help is greatly appreciated. Lori

Jbutler - Can I ask how much it sold for?

I sold it for $329 after it was overhauled and the keys/posts/rings plated nickel. I think I also replaced the case with an inexpensive Pro-tec style case. I believe I only paid $40 or so when I purchased the instrument. I probably put way to much work into it but was really more curious as to how it would play when finished. It played very well.
