Hi,
I bought a step-up clarinet for my son, a Selmer Paris 10S, and I was researching its age. The serial number is D8XXX. From the list here:
http://www.clarinetperfection.com/snclarinet.htm
the series only goes up to 'B' which started around 1980. Did they continue making the 10s in the 80s up through a D series? Did the Recital series replace the 10s in 1984, or did they keep making them after the Recital series was launched?
Thanks

D series Selmers are from around 1987-1988 - the 10S was in production from the late '70s until it was eventually replaced with the 10SII in the early '90s (production of both models overlapped for a while as is the case of all Selmers of a similar model).
Basically the 10S was Selmer's entry level pro clarinet (Selmer Paris only ever made pro level clarinets until they released the student level Prologue in the early '90s - Selmer USA only made student level clarinets), then the 10G was the next model up from it and the Recital was their top model - all being produced at the same time.
The Recital is a very different clarinet to anything else on the market as it has a very small bore by most standards but also has really wide diameter joints, so it weighs a ton in comparison to a 10S or 10G.
