I keep going back and forth between feeling like I'm making great progress and feeling like I'm totally delusional. I have a few auditions coming up soon so I was wondering what something's you do or say to yourself when you bummed out or feeling like your stuck in a rut
This is obviously a more mental then technical question. Just curious
Cheers

It'll pass, always does, just keep at it. Help yourself out of the rut by doing something different. If you don't play many scales, play them. If you do nothing but scales and etudes, play a solo or get in an ensemble.

Well I'm already a professional so I've had a good job since I gradutated college. When the clarinet gets me down, usually having to learn some really stupid difficult piece that is written on a key board and doesn't fit the clarinet at all I think about all the great sfuff I've played and will play next week. It's a bit difference when you're looking to get a job. Just measure you ability, if you think you can compete just take a day off and begin again. It's a tough field you choose for a profession. Very few decent jobs, many many players.
