BAM New trekking double clarinet case-carbon
Author: JackHorrocks

Hi,
I am considering buying the BAM new trekking double case in the carbon finish. I have considered quite a few double cases.
Does this case have enough space for accessories such as an 8 reed case and other things?
Also, how many barrel slots are there?
Thanks

I have one, and one of my students just bought one too.

The case is really small...REALLY small. It actually holds two clarinets, with separate lower joints and bells too. There are 4 barrel slots, 1 mouthpiece slot, and 1 inside storage area I use to hold another mouthpiece, cork grease, and swab. The top pocket area expands (and has a small zipper compartment in there as well), and you can easily hold music, tons of reeds, and other stuff. The backpack straps are well-designed and very comfortable.

The only issues I have are that with too much stuff in the top pocket, the case tips over when you take the clarinets out. Also, unlike the original Trekking case it doesn't have clips to keep the case closed so it's only the zippers that secure it. There aren't any D rings to attach a shoulder strap if you prefer to carry it that way. Finally, the faux-carbon fiber shell scratches very easily (you can use car scratch remover to get it pristine again though).

It is important to note that while the shell looks very similar to that of the Hightech cases available for stringed instruments which are roughly 1cm thick, this case doesn't have any of the foam layers underneath the shell, so it's somewhat flexible.

Thanks very much. That was a very informative answer!
I am glad it is small... I have to transport my clarinets around a lot, and fit it into a small compartment regularly, so that is helpful.
Once again, thank you very much :)
