I used to be a dedicated user of Vandoren's Black Master Reeds until recently when they changed them. After the change, they were nothing like the reeds they were before and thusly unplayable.
I was looking at the Vandoren website and noticed that there are now 2 versions of the Black Master reeds: Regular and Traditional.

I wanted to know if either of these 2 versions of the Black Master reeds are like the old style before the change.
Thanks for your input.

The old were as consistent(as Vandoren goes) and responsive.
The new ones are stuffy and hard.

I have many boxes of old-style Black Masters. If you want them, I'll trade straight up for boxes of old-style Morrés (the ones Marcellus played).
For me, the difference between Black Masters and Traditional (purple box) Vandorens is that Black Masters were slightly narrower and more consistent (both a good thing).

Hi Adam,
I have the same problem. Try the white master reeds which are slightly different. My understanding is that the old style is not produced anymore. I had to go a 1/2 size down in the White master.
