Methods to revive the German bass mouthpiece
Author: HANGARDUDE

As some of you may know that the German bore bass mouthpieces uses their own cut of reeds, which is far smaller than a French one. These reeds are hard to find and thus alto clarinet/sax reeds have to be filed to use on the German mouthpiece. Although the sound of some of these reeds have been satisfactory, the playing range is problematic and squeaking often occurs.

As a strong advocate of the German bore bass mouthpiece, I wish the reed problem could be solved. Can the German bass mouthpiece be modified to fit alto clarinet reeds? Or special reed trimmersto cut alto reeds into German bass reeds?

Josh
