Hello-
I'm in the market for a 2nd bass clarinet neck similar to the one pictured - no register vent, with a cork tenon. (I don't care about the crossbar) I DON"T want an "improved" angle neck. If any repairmen or collectors have something like this for sale please let me know. Thanks!

I have nothing like that here, but a thought: it might help if you specify the bore diameter and the length of the neck (you can measure the latter by running a piece of string or flexible wire along the side of the neck following the centerline, making an ink mark where it ends, then straightening out the cord or wire and measuring its length with a ruler or tape measure).

Ah. thanks:) I don't have calipers or anything - but the diameter is 2.5- 2.7 cm, and the length apprx. 23.5 cm measured end to end as described, including both the cork on one end and receiver on the other. (no laser accuracy here, so allow for human error)

Why do you want a second bass neck? Is the one you're using not working well?
A neck with no vent is for a bass with a single register vent near the top end of the body. Except for the older Leblancs (around 1960), I don't know of any single-vent basses that approach professional quality, and even the Leblancs were problematic.
Please tell us more.

I'm adding a pickup. A hole is will be drilled on the side of the neck and then a receiver soldered on. So I'd rather have a 2nd neck. My horn is a Hüller, Albert system, and suits me just fine.
If you have an extra neck like the one I described let me know.

thanks for the info - think I'll pass on the Blashaus necks - I already looked into it and they are 1795 Swiss francs - about $1930 US(!) No, I need something suitable for modification - at low ri$k:) Fox I'll be hitting up for a MP adaptor this summer sometime. I have a Zinner I'd like to try out.

I use a pickup for my bass clarinet that does "penetrate" the neck i.e. there's a hole in the neck and the pickup goes through to the inside. However there are a few other ways to do this.
You can use a piezo pickup and tape it to the reed. This should work, but also depends on the quality of the pickup (hard to know in advance, just trial and error mostly or go based on someone else's experience).
You can try to find one of those paper thin piezos and then you can put it under the reed, between the reed and the mouthpiece. I don't think it will affect the reed much if at all (based one what someone else told me, I haven't tried this).
If you want to use one of those better pickups that go through to the bore, you can connect it to the mouthpiece. You can get a cheap mouthpiece (e.g. Yamaha) and try it. This has some advantages and disadvantages over connecting the pickup to the neck (I've tried both).

Great info. When you take the pickup off, I assume you have a pin or plug that seals in the hole.
Can you describe it, or better yet attach photos?

The pickup is threaded and screws in place. I could remove it and use a screw to seal, but instead I have a spare neck. It is a tunable neck so I actually only change the outer part of it which has the pickup. I only do this when I play without the pickup, because of the wire, etc.
I think I posted on this forum before. If you can't find it I can post another photo.
