 Normandy clarinet parts
Author: Tony F

I'm repairing a Normandy clarinet for the son of a friend. It's had a hard life and has a couple of damaged/missing parts, namely the longest trill key and the thumb ring. It has a grenadilla body and plastic bell and barrel. Can anyone advise me where I might be able to source these 2 keys?

Vito parts should fit, so I reckon your best bet is to look out for scrap Vito parts on eBay such as a top joint with a broken tenon (but with all the keys still in place).

Many thanks, Chris. As it happens, I know just where I can lay my hands on an ex-Vito. Saved my bacon. Thanks again.

If the Normandy in need of repair has inline trill keys mounted on four sets of posts, it's a Model 5; keys from a Model 7 and Model 10 will also fit.

Incidentally, my research shows that the Model 5 was discontinued by or during 1961. Little wonder, then, that this one has "been through the war". Good luck on your restoration.

If memory serves, there's some awkward sliding on the little-finger keys midway through the piece, but nothing terribly hard otherwise.

Oh, we're not talking about the 1st movement of the Milhaud Suite Fraincaise? Neever mind.

That particular passage would be a breeze on a Normandy 5, thanks to its ergonomic keywork. Assuming all the keys are there, of course. ;-)

Hi Ursa! There is a new site that is selling parts for all kinds of used instruments. The website URL is: www.usedbandparts.com
There is actually a trill key on there that you are looking for if you still need it. They have parts for lots of different instruments and are adding parts to the site daily.

Hi Tony,

Go to www.usedbandparts.com and type in Normandy in the search box. The parts you need are listed there and include the shafts to install them! They have all types of used instrument parts and ship out on the next day. Let everyone know about the site!

Hi jGoodman,
Thanks for the reference. This problem is long sorted thanks to some kind assistance from a member of this bb, but it's always good to know of new sources. Looks like a useful site.
