what if a clarinet hasn't been used for 30 years...

Hi,

I'm interested to buy an e-flat Buffet Crampon Prestige. It's been used for approx. 6 months 30 years ago and never been out of it's case since then.....(what a shame!)

What impact would that have on the condition of the instrument?
Is 1.400 euro's (approx. 1845 USD) a reasonable price (if the instrument is indeed in good condition)?

I'd love to hear your ideas!

$1800 for a Buffet Prestige Eb and you haven't purchased it yet ???!!!???

There may be some oiling and break-in period involved but there should be no unusual problems due to being left unattended.

I just saw the add yesterday, I'm going to make an appointment to play the thing and if it playing like the seller says it is, then I'll buy it!

Thanks for your comment!

Agreed with Paul,

A retired physicist just started taking lessons from me -- and he had his original pre-R13 from his high school years. He was careful breaking it back in -- and it's a surprisingly good instrument.

(I had no experience with pre-R13s before this -- that was the surprising part)

Try before buy, as always.

Unless it's been sitting in a very hot humid room all this time it should be as good as new. The pads may be dried out and the keys may need oiling but it should play as good as new otherwise. If you try it and like it a little bore oil won't hurt it. It's a great price if it plays well.

I bought it! And I'm very happy with it. It has a great rich sound, especially with the Viotta-mouthpiece.
Happy!
