 Connecting problems
Author: Tony F

Starting yesterday morning, I seem to be having intermittent problems connecting with or posting to the BB. Anybody else experiencing this?

Yes. It's the solar plexus, I gather. Or the fine weather outside suggesting other activities. :-)

Just had problems this am--6/16/2013 at 11:15 CST USA. Maybe it's Big Bro checking out our BB.

Yeah, I had some problems a few minutes ago, when I tried to post a message on this thread. At first, the bulletin board threads appeared without any of the normal material that appears up at the top (the name of this site, the links to other parts of the site and so forth). I was able to log in, but then when I tried to post a message here, I got an "unable to find page" error message. When I went back to my "favorites" links, I was unable to get onto the site. These events have happened a few other times in the last week or so. However, I'm having similar problems on other websites unconnected to this one, and after I switched to one of those a few minutes ago, it was messed up, too.

Yes, and the ghost of Shadow Cat probably sent him here. Anybody who plays screech-sticks must be guilty of ... something else. I suspect Jane Feline could probably explain everything, too. In fact, I suspect cats are in charge at No Such Agency.

It appears to be a shared server problem and/or Google Ads having some problems.

Of course tyhis stuff only happens when I am barely connected via my p[hone while I'm out in the countryside fishing...

Same problems here, although a display like the one Chris attached happens from time to time anyway for me. The difference this weekend has been the frequency of server errors.

Yes, two days ago my central air conditioner unit went out in our house. By the time I came back from work, the house temp was almost 90 degrees and humid. I wanted to know if it was safe to practice my clarinet or I would be running the risk of a crack if I opened the case. The A/C man arrived at 7:00 and it turned out to be only a stalled fan motor due to the blades hitting the fan shroud. It took 15 minutes to fix and by 8:00 the temperature was down to 85, so I pulled out the horn to play. I couldn't get into the board to pose this question, because of these same connection problems. After a while, you realize that the constant consulting of this board is a bit of a crutch. Many of us, myself included, are too computer dependant.

You're far less likely to crack a clarinet while playing it with high ambient humidity compared to playing it while the humidity levels are very low.

When humidity levels are low, the outside of the clarinet is being sapped of its moisture. Then playing it greatly increases the humidity levels in the bore so there's a huge difference in humidity between the bore and outside which will cause the wood to swell from the inside causing an increase in outward pressure which can result in a crack on the outside of the instrument at a weak spot.

If humidity levels are high and nearly equal both inside and out, then that's not going to cause any problems as there's not much of a difference in humidity levels.

I'm still getting the problem on other websites as well. One of them, the Scarlet Street site on yuku.com, became nearly unusable for a few days -- and then the advertising banner that had always run at the top of the page disappeared. Everything's been fine since then.

P.S. -- I came back to correct this post, because apparently I got lucky. Everything's happened to be fine for me on that site, but the moderator there reports ongoing, intermittant problems.

It happens to me fairly often when I try to post a reply. There seems to be no way to get past it.

When it happens, I hit Ctrl-A to highlight my response and Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard. I then click on the Clarinet BB bookmark to reload the site, go to the string and paste my response in (Ctrl-V). That usually works.
