 Leblanc Concerto;s

I have recently bought a brand new Concerto A clarient for $1400. It's a wonderful horn. However, I have two questions. Now on my R-13 Bb I use a caddash barrell and have been every so pleased at the tone a resistance since i have sqitched from the Moennig barrell. Now,. is it ytypical for people to use different barrells on the leblanc hhorns as well? if so what barrells are used more typically than others with the leblanc horns?
Also, i'm not really pleased with the pads that are on the horn. I use Straubinger pads on my Buffet, and am thinking of having the Straubingers used on the leblanc. Does anyone know if Straubiongers are able to be put on the leblanc horns? I'm just wondering if there is a difference bewteen the conical and rounded pad cups and the ability tu put these pads on the horn.
Thanks
Aaron

I've been playing on my Concerto for about nine years now and recently, as a result of advice from Greg Smith, I have switched to using a Chadash barrel and am quite pleased with the improved tone quality and resistance, particularily in the upper register. I do not like the Chadash barrel on my Concerto Bb and continue to use the stock LeBlanc barrel. As for pads, I am unfamiliar with your Straubiongers but have never found any problems with the LeBlanc issue gear. Good clarineting!!!!!!!!

I have been playing my concerto for about a year and a half, and up until a few weeks ago used the stock barrel on the horn. I found it to be very bright (as did my teacher) and I decided to try some new things out. Believe it or not, I found that an Eddie Daniel's Classic Accubore (aluminum) worked well for me.

And also Straubinger pads are pretty universal and can be put on any horn.

Hope that helped!

Aaron -

Straubinger pads were invented for flutes. As I understand it, they're formed to the metal rims and cover extremely tightly. I've never heard of their being used on clarinets, but it's certainly possible. However, flutes -- particularly the top models to which Straubinger pads are applied -- are made to much tighter tolerances than clarinets. If my Haynes flute has any sloppiness at all in its keys, I'd need a microscope to see it. Clarinets are just not made with that kind of precision, and they need pads that can conform to slight amounts of unevenness, even if its only the grain in the wood. Also, clarinet keys come down at all different angles, whereas flute keys are all the same.

Straubinger pads might work on clarinet, particularly if you have very light fingers. Otherwise, I'd get a second opinion.

Several good repair people are on the Klarinet board, but not here. I'd advise posting a question there.

Best regards.

Let's phrase that better. There are good repair people here, and other good ones that do not read this board, but do read the Klarinet board. The more the merrier.
