After I sell my e11 A clarinet, I will either buy an r13 or festival. i am leaning towards the festival because i like the powerful sound and more freeblowing characteristics. Also, festivals are not terribly more expensive than r13's which opens up my options. Though I ultimately care about producing good music, I kinda like the plaque that are on the festival models, excuse my pettiness. What would you suggest and why with your unbiased?

Buy the one that plays the best.
Don't forget to carefully check tuning while testing new instruments.

The closer to your face a clarinet part is, the more it affects the playing. When I played my nephew's plastic Vito with my handmade mouthpiece and barrel, no one could hear any difference between it and my well-tweaked Buffet R13. I could tell, of course but the difference was startlingly small.
So -- take your E11 along when you try out R13s and Festivals, and put your Lomax and Backun on them. You may find that there's not much difference.
(Of course you should *never* buy a clarinet without playing it first and comparing it to as many others as you can. The sample-to-sample variation is still quite wide.)

I'd rethink the "free blowing" part. If your playing in an orchestra, projection is much harder on a "free blowing" instrument.

Although it ultimately comes to personal preference, i own the pair of festival clarinets. I was in a similar dilemma but it was my opinion that the festivals give a more rounded sound compared to the r13's.
