Is there anyone out here in the L.A. area online now? What is the going rate for clarinet lessons? I've heard some teachers charge $100 an hour? As an example, if they had time, which they probably don't, what would a clarinetist from a philharmonic or let's say someone like Eddie Daniels charge? Art.

To add to my post above, I mention the L.A. area where I live, I don't know if clarinet lesson rates vary in different areas of the country. But anyone in the midwest or east coast, I'd be interested to know what teachers are getting in your area as well. Art.

In Detroit, lessons with symphony players are in that ballpark, maybe just a tad less. Depends on the teacher.

They can vary quite a bit depending on the teacher's level, and absolutely the area.
I've got a student who also takes Bass Clarinet lessons in NYC, and she pays $175 for an hour for them there.
If he lived here, they would probably be around $125 I figure.
I did a survey a while back, you can see the variances:

Where I live (East Coast -mid sized town) there is no major professional symphony. Private music teachers with Masters Degrees, school music teachers, principals from the community orchestra etc run about $1 per minute or about $25-30 for half hour lesson. The pickings are rather slim, so clarinet students are likely to be taking lessons from an oboist or sax player who doubles on clarinet rather than a clarinet specialist.
