Rossini - Introduction, Theme and Variations
Author: GBK
Date:   2013-06-04 16:13

I have a student currently working on the Rossini Introduction, Theme and Variations. We want to add a small cadenza before the final chromatic scale up to high Ab.

Yes, I know we can write one ourselves and probably will, but have any of you already written one so we can get some additional ideas?

Care to share?

One of my favorites, especially played by Stoltzman.

I wish improv would have been a part of my early clarinet instruction. We clarinet teachers often teach "robotic" technique--perfect this, perfect that, etc--rather than musical creativity and ear training. Of course, it is important to study what the masters have done, but it is also good to develop confidence in our own creativity and not be afraid to test our musical wings. The younger this concept is introduced, the better the results in later life. Now, how 'bout those multiple tonguing and circular breathing studies???? Just saying........

Here is an alteration of a Martin Frost cadenza for the Rossini that originated here in another thread.
