Am travelling to Central America soon and am planning to offer a couple of mini recitals in some very poor schools and communities. I have a few solo music minus one type recordings that I'm planning to use, but was wondering if there were any similar recordings available for the Mozart Quintet or other well known chamber music. Thanks

Holy Cow Jack! That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for and I can download it too! Good thing since I'm leaving tomorrow. I'll take some pics and try to get some sort of video.

I think this is the very first MMO clarinet recording. I bought it as an LP around 1958. Check first that the recording is not transposed up half a step for Bb. As I recall, the LP was in A, but they gave you a written part (barely playable) transposed for Bb.
The pitch of the MMO LPs was pretty variable. You should probably load it into an editing program such as Audacity, which will let you adjust speed and pitch.
Don't go in cold. The recorded parts are not at all easy to stay in synch with.
Be ready to turn up the volume quite a bit for the recorded parts. Otherwise everything comes out pp.

It was also one of my first MMO recordings but I bought it quite a bit after 1958 -- probably in the 70s. Mine includes parts for both A clarinet and a transposed part for Bb clarinet. Printing is fine. I don't have time to listen for intonation right now. Maybe later tonight.
Best regards,
jnk

I downloaded it yesterday. It was in zip format and my software was out of date so that made it a pain. I'm pretty neadethal in my music editing skills but eventually I did get it loaded onto my I phone. The only thing is that it's kinda piecemeal. None of movements are on a single trac but broken up into sections. Not ideal but I'll make it work. People are SO appreciative that someone cares enough to share the gift of music. Also the temperature and humidity are unbelievable so a second or two break to wait for the next track will be a welcome break. Thanks all. I'll try to report from the scene but if not, I'll post when I get back in a couple of weeks.

I have it with paper copies and CDs. I have been playing it on A but have parts for both A and Bb. I thought the pitch was a bit suspect but adapted accordingly! I last played it for real with a string quartet when I was 18 over 30 years ago. Difficult not being able to have some licence with the expression and tempo. I remember watching the first violinists bow and we watched each others body language and listened for cues. Very different! I play along quite a lot with You Tube recordings and find the ones where there are views of the conductor/leader most satisfying and the best to follow:-)

I looked at my LPs. The Mozart Quintet is in A with a written transposition for Bb. The Brahms Quintet is in Bb, but it's clearly a speeded up version originally in A. Most turntables (ah, memories) had a speed trim control that let you slow them down enough to bring the pitch down a half step. That's a problem when you have a CD or MP3 transfer.
I have a really good LP of the Spohr Concerto #3 that's a full step high.
The MMO LPs declined in quality over the years. The Brahms Trio had a phone ringing and a baby crying in the background.

I'm pretty sure there's a german "play along disk", I think published by Peter's Edition... I have the K622 one on CD, and it's (of course) at higher pitch (about 443 I think) which isn't actually that much of a problem- with a barrel 1mm shorter it works ok so long as I'm warmed up...

(edit- i just searched their website, and they have the concerto but not the quintet listed, I swear on a stack of bibles they used to have the quintet, i distinctly remember trying to decide whether or not to buy it at a music store in Bergerdorf (Merkel Music I think it was called), around 1998, but they must have taken it out of production)
