Going to concerts (Symphony Hall, etc)

I would like to see a BSO concert at symphony hall. I've never been to a "pay" concert before. How should I dress? Where are the best seats? Anything else important?

Times and dress standards have changed in recent years, but... to me a formal concert in a respected venue means jacket/ tie for guys, semi-fancy dress or suit for women. "The best" seats vary by the hall, and may vary by whether sound or sight lines are most important to you. Best to ask someone familiar with the particular hall. (I'm sure you'll get some posts from those familiar.)

Other things to know... Arrive early, if detained, do not take your seat while the performance is going on (a good performance hall won't permit it anyway.) Also, don't leave during a piece either (except for acute illness!) Turn off pagers and cell phones as well as beeping watches. No sound or video recording is ever permitted, and flash photography annoys those around you as well as those on stage. Most important, enjoy yourself, and express it to the performers with aplause.

Jim has pretty much said it all. But I would like to add that you should't start your applause after a piece until the conductor has relaxed his arms. Otherwise, you may find yourself applauding during a pause between sections or movements or during an intended silence for effect at the end of a piece. And please don't whisper to your companion while the orchestra is playing. (As a musician, you may already know all this, but I wish everyone did.)

It is also polite to applaud the concertmaster when he/she comes out to tune the orchestra and to applaud the conductor when he/she appears. And don't be in rush to leave after the last scheduled piece or you may miss an encore.
