 Favourite piano trios
Author: JonTheReeds

I have been asked to play with a violinist for an informal gathering and thought about some piano trios. We're both intermediate (Grade 5-ish)

Does anyone have a favourite piano trio (piano, violin + clarinet/cello - I can transpose the cello) that isn't too advanced?

The Khatchaturian trio is very good, but you must play it with a real gypsy wildness. Listen to Bellison's recording.

If your violinist also plays viola, the Bruch 8 Pieces are wonderful. The Verdehr Trio does them with violin, so it's possible, but even for them it's a compromise.

And of course there's the Mozart trio.
