I have a Buffet bflat clarinet serial number 131739. I got it in 1972. How do I determine the exact model number and whether the keys are solid or silver plated?

I don't know how to find the information on that exact horn but Buffet's of that era did not come with silver plating. They were only available in nickel plate in the 70's.

Actually, they were available with silverplated or goldplated keywork, but only by special order. Pretty rare to see one with anything but nickel, though. THey also offered all thevadditional Boehmvkeys beyond the standard at that time, but again, by special order.

The easiest way to find out whether something is silver-plated is to try silverware polish on it. If rubbing gently on the key with a bit of polish on a soft rag leaves a gray or black smear on the rag, you've got silver. No smear (or just a smear that's obviously dirt) means it's nickel.

I bought a silver plated R13 in the summer of 1969. There were three R13s in stock at that particular store, and only one of them had the silver keywork.
