I bought this clarinet a few years ago and played for some time, I just started playing it again, this is with a Vandoren 5JB mouthpiece, thought it might be of interest, comments positive and negative very welcome, You-tube link....

Could you post some detailed photos of this clarinet?
While Selmer Sterling was a Selmer London brand name used on student level clarinets in the '50s and '60s, there were some genuine Selmer Paris metal clarinets that bore the name Sterling inside a diamond logo.
I saw one recently which was a semi-Improved Albert system, but unfortunately it was high pitch. The sockets were classic Selmer with the rounded end where they were soldered to the body tube and had a line of dots around them just above the join.

This is definitely a Selmer Sterling Paris instrument with the name inside the diamond logo, an early one, the later ones had micro tuning barrels mine does not, mine also has a post for putting a lyre on that I don't see on others, its in a bit of a state to look at but I have had it overhauled and it plays well, I will be using it at a jazz festival this coming Saturday.

Beautiful, especially when you play soft. Lovely swing.
It gets metallic when you play loud, but I think that's caused by a cheap mic and having the recording volume turned up high.

Sounds great !!!!!
I have a Silver plate Regent made by the Ohio Band Company and I couldn't get it to sound like that !!!
Mine sounds mellow below middle b, but is hard to blow above that. When I manage to get the proper fingering and embrocure just right the sound is good though. I repadded it and really had a challenge getting all the leaks out of it.
Do you find it more difficult to play than your wood ones ??? I have relegated it to the case the last several months. I polished it up and it looks teriffic.
I bought several wood ones on Ebay and refurbished them and really like playing them after fifty years not even owning a clarinet.

Dug out my Regeant metal clarinet today after about 6 weeks. I wrapped sting around the lower 18mm pads to get them to seat and stored it in a drawer.
I can hit middle B and C now. My new Portnoy BP02 and a 1.5 Mitchell Lurie reed are the right combination for this clarinet.
I feel a lot better about the horn now. I had given up on enjoying playing it .....:)

The strange sound is the old video camera I did it with, it automatically cuts sound try try and balance the levels, a bit weird.
