I have a Vandoren mouthpiece that was bought about 30 years ago. It says "3V". Apparently, Vandoren no longer makes this mouthpiece; their website doesn't list it. Does anyone know where a 3V would fit into their current lineup? Is it substantially different than a B40 or B45? Thanks in advance.

In looking at my Vandoren charts and a couple of books I have available on mouthpieces, it looks like the 3V must be what is now called the VD3. That's a mouthpiece made to suit the Berlin (Germany) school of play. The facing (if it's the same mouthpiece) is 1.00mm. That would make the American version M13 the closest to matching with a 100,5 mm tip. The VD3 is still available in the Woodwind and Brasswind catalogue. The "blurb" about it says it has a "balanced sound in all registers."
I have a friend who is looking for a good (preferably new) Vandoren V360 if anyone knows where to find one.

I originally posted this message. In case anyone cares, I got a B45 and it seems very similar to the 3V. Placing both facing-down on a piece of glass, the curvature seems virtually identical. The B45 seems just a little more responsive than the old 3V, but the difference is subtle. I can't get a clean attack on A above the staff to save my life, but I couldn't on the 3V, either. Obviously, it's me. ;-)
