Any thoughts on these reeds? I know that Bb cut offs are preferred often to the blue box Eb reeds but what about the V12s?

I really like the V12s. I use 4's on my Eb and unlike the Bb version, I never seem to have to do much to prepare them for playing. Does anyone else find this to be the case?

I bought a box a year or so ago, but have since switched to cut-down "B-flat" 56 Rue Lepic reeds. At the time, I found the difference between the V12 and blue-box E-flat reeds to be minimal, at least when compared to the difference between these cuts of B-flat reeds.
In all honesty, I cannot recommend highly enough cutting down B-flat reeds. Much less temperamental in every way.

(Eric, Et nous meed à nouveau sur un sujet même) =)
I tried them when they came out. I usually play blue box Eb reeds, and use blue box reeds on Bb as well.
I figured I would give them a try since the extra cane thickness and difference in cut would offer some advantages. I found them to be unplayable. I tried an entire box of 3.5's and didn't find a single functional reed. 0\10.
There is absolutely no reason why they call the V12 an "advanced" reed over the blue box. It's simply a different cut. Personally, I find the V12 to not be an improvement and moreover it many times goes the other way...
The blue box cut, being thinner, is generally harder cane (closer to the bark). This means that it vibrates more fully due to the thinner cut, but the cane is substantial enough to resist closing off on the mouthpiece. The result is a very vibrant and responsive reed with a thick enough heart and hard enough cane to be very stable.
Predictability, stability, and enough flexibility to adjust for pitch are not qualities I found in the V12s, but qualities necessary to play Eb well.

I also cannot stand the Eb v12 reeds. I keep going to them to think I'd change my mind, and they are just so unresponsive that I just stick with blue box. I have been experiementing with cut off Bb reeds, both Blue Box and V12. I think I just like the cut down blue box Bb reeds. It's different for everyone. For the record I play on a Vandoren B40 mouthpiece with Vandoren Eb Blue Box 3s, and again, experimenting with cut down Bb 3s.

In my experience there's not much to choose between blue box and V12s in terms of the proportion ready to play out of the box without adjustment. As with Bb reeds the usual rules apply: a combination of personal preference in sound quality for the music being played, mouthpiece/ligature set-up and embouchure. One other thought though - some of my most joyously responsive Eb reeds have been cut down Bb reeds that were "blown out" on my Bb. Sometimes they can take on a new lease of life. I discovered this by accident some time ago with a reed I was about to chuck out, and having repeated it a number of times since, it seems not to be a fluke - although maybe just a lucky by-product of the relationship between my main Bb and Eb mouthpieces.
