 Having fun with the Eefer

I have just been playing the Eb soprano for a little over 6 weeks in my community band. We had several pieces this season that called for TWO separate Eb players, so I got tagged to play the second one. I am really loving playing this little guy!

It helps, of course, that I have a decent setup for playing in the group: a Yamaha 681 II and a Behn Artist mouthpiece. Good gear makes everything so much easier.

Last night in rehearsal, we were working on the Holst Suite in Eb for Military Band. The director stopped us partway through the Intermezzo movement and commented, "In all the years I have been conducting this piece, I have never had a chance to do it with two people on Eb who could actually play the part properly....until now!" It made me feel pretty good. Our regular player is truly great on both Eefer and Bb. She said I have been improving, too.

This is fun!

It's nice to have ONE Eb clarinet in the Holst, but that's a rarity - having two Ebs is unheard of in my region!

I've rebuilt my full Boehm Series 9 Eb as well as shortened the LH Ab/Eb lever as it was too long and got in the way of the LH F#/C# lever and added an adjusting screw to the articulated C#/G# mechanism for better adjustment. See attached photos.

We also played the band arrangement of Mars a few weeks back at a combied bands concert. There were 2-3 eefers plus 3 or 4 alto clarinets. It was an interesting exercise....280 players on stage at once! :)

Nice work on your instruments, Chris.

This statement should be in every teachers "How To Motivate Kids" handbook.

Chris: You spoil yourself.
I've been considering taking one joint off of my right pinky with a meat cleaver because the right hand "woodpile" is stacked too close to the ring keys.

BRAVO! Great work!

William: What are the chances that there's even a How To Motivate book?

JJ: Way to GO

At 53, I am one of the "kids" in our band. I trashed the age curve when I joined 8+ years ago. My daughter did even more damage to he curve when she joined at the same time! [rotate]
