Hi - I just put my bass in for repair, and when I got it back, it was alot more improved except for one thing. There is this annoying new pad over the C key (chalmeau)(sp.) w2hich makes the note fuss. I know it is the pad too, because it is the only note that does this.
I don't have much experience with pad problems - Can somebody help me out?
DLE.

DLE -
That key (for the ring finger of the right hand) often doesn't open as far as it should on bass clarinets. Is the intonation OK on the chalumeau/clarion/altissimo D/A/F#? If those notes are flat, it's a simple matter to raise the pad.
Look to see if the pad is bulging in the middle, which can cause fuzz. If it's a bladder pad (rather than a leather one), the skin over the felt may be loose and causing the buzz.
An instrument should come back from the repair shop with everything working right. You should take it back and have them fix the problem. It should only take a few minutes.
Best regards.

Good advice Ken. I suspect the bladder might be loose and flapping or that the key height is too low.
