I have just been playing the Eb soprano for a little over 6 weeks in my community band. We had several pieces this season that called for TWO separate Eb players, so I got tagged to play the second one. I am really loving playing this little guy!
It helps, of course, that I have a decent setup for playing in the group: a Yamaha 681 II and a Behn Artist mouthpiece. Good gear makes everything so much easier.
Last night in rehearsal, we were working on the Holst Suite in Eb for Military Band. The director stopped us partway through the Intermezzo movement and commented, "In all the years I have been conducting this piece, I have never had a chance to do it with two people on Eb who could actually play the part properly....until now!" It made me feel pretty good. Our regular player is truly great on both Eefer and Bb. She said I have been improving, too.
This is fun!
