Mouthpiece selection - good advice from the bboard

As a long time lurker I just wanted to offer the bboard a hearty thankyou. After 30 years of not playing I started back up again this year and, while doing remarkably well was having a lot of trouble with keeping consistent intonation up and down my clarinets. I was starting to think it was all me and that I would never get my chops back into shape, but then I read a mouthpiece thread that mentioned wide 12ths using the Vandoren 13 series mouthpieces - BINGO! I took a risk and just purchased a refaced Buffet Chedville from Kurtzwiel (kurtweilmusical.com) and everything is back to rights. Thank you all for the collective wisdom of the forum. Hopefully I'll join in and chat more as time goes on.

This board is awesome. I have seen some of my posts from when I first started posting here (circa 2002 or 2003) and this board has helped me time and time again, and I've gotten some great advice and info from this board. I've purchased items from sponsors of this board, used services from sponsors of this board, and in general, I give a lot of credit to the BBoard for me being able to have the job I have (military musician) and for having the skill to maintain that job and be an asset and not a hindrance to the bands I've been to so far. Lots of great info.

My opinion? If you see any threads or exercises by Ken Shaw, read and take note. He seems to have some GREAT exercises on how to get better and is GREAT at being able to type it out in a coherent manner so I can follow it. There are others as well, but he answered a few questions of mine in the past with some exercises, and they helped me gain a lot of control over the instrument. I now feel like I'm no longer fighting it and it feels much more natural. Not QUITE yet an extension of my body, but much closer.

Scott Kurtzweil can really make a mpc play. I've had him reface 3 for me and I bought one of his bass mpcs. There certainly is a lot of good advice offered up on this forum. Getting a mpc refaced rather than shelling out big bucks for a new one has sure worked for me.
