 Pad size refrerence?
Author: FatherOfTwo

Is there a source for pad sizes for particular clarinets models? For example, a Buffet B12 is known to require X number of these sizes. And also includes thickness and taper vs. non-tapered?
I've found a few bits of info, such a Yamaha generally having shallower cups, but nothing comprehensive.

Thanks.

Companies that supply pads have this sort of info so they can make up sets for specific instruments if anyone orders pad sets, but no-one has published any comprehensive lists.

The only manufacturer that has published any lists is Yamaha.

There can be variations in sizes even between two named models of same make over the years so even the pad suppliers have a caveat when supplying "sets"
Since techs have to deal with all makes/models we just have to keep a small stock of every size (and of course also styles e.g. skin/leather/cork etc.)

Pad sizes will also vary according to the type of pad. A Buffet will take an 8.75 Valentino but needs a 9mm bladder pad.

Highly variable, so I learned how to tailor and install cork. Not difficult but time consuming.

That's also why I prefer cork pads as they can be made to any diameter and thickness to suit any instrument provided the pad cups are mostly concentric with their respective toneholes if the tonehole bedplace diameter is relatively wide for the diameter of the pad.
