John Davies, one of the most eminent clarinet teachers of the Twentieth century passed away last Sunday.
Long-term professor and former Head of Woodwind at the Royal Academy of Music, London.
There are a few of his former pupils posting on these boards, and it would be very rare to find a British orchestra in the last half-century which didn't have at least one of his pupils in their clarinet section.
I had the great privilege of studying with John (and Tony Pay) at the RAM in the 1980's.
RIP John, you touched many lives greatly.

A very familiar name although I never met him.
John clocked up a grand old age though so if playing clarinet can stave off the ultimate end a bit then maybe I will keep on playing.
