How did all those high school kids out there do at solo and ensemble? Ours was today, and I think did very well. I got *1's on my solo (Weber Concerto No. 1), Woodwind Quintet (Beethoven Quintet in Eb), Woodwind Choir (Gavotte -- I forget who did it), and Jazz Ensemble (I play alto saxophone). I got regular 1's on my duet (Quantz) and Clarinet Choir (Mozart Sinfonietta -- it would have a gotten a 3 a few days ago).
Yay!

Congrats. :-) All I can say, is enjoy those solo and ensemble contests while you've got 'em. They're a lot of fun, provide a good chance to put together a small ensemble, interact and perform with other musicians, and help improve your playing. They may seem to be stressful, but in the long run, they are not as big of a deal as they seem. Still, you should put your effort into it, and enjoy. You will be glad you did. I can see that it has paid off for you already, this year. Later, you will better come to realize how fun they really are, despite the stress involved at the time. -- Nate Zeien
PS - Yes, and as Bob said, "Jolly Good!!". I quite often use this phrase, myself, when speaking. My friends give me crap for often saying things like "Jolly good!", and "Nifty!". Oh well. Doesn't mean I use these phrases any less... :-)

Go Amanda! It sounds like you were really busy with all those solos. Do you get any sleep? I played the Weber No. 1 for NYSSMA last year and I really like it. Now I'm finally up for All-State (10th grade) in late May. Festivals are stressful but they get you ready for auditions, when more counts.
Good luck to everyone else here at solo festivals.

Congrats to everyone who's gotten through solo and ensemble. We had ours last week and I qualified for the State competition in early May. I'm really excited because that means I'll have competed all four years of high school. Hope everyone enjoys this musical experience. It's a blast to listen to other talented people and even make new friends!

Our solo wnsemble isn't until May 5th and I just picked out my piece. I'm Doing Rossini, and hopeful it will be a success. my teacher said that it was doable but a little more difficult than what I'm used to and for my playing experience.

Congrats!!
