Silver Inlay mouthpiece - Brad Behn

I had the good fortune to purchase a silver inlay mouthpiece off a eBay for an exceptional price. It's condition was excellent but it played poorly since the tip rails were uneven and the baffle was too concave. Does anyone have experience with these mouthpieces? I know from finding out in this forum that David Glazer played on one.

I sent this mouthpiece off to Brad Behn who indicated by email that my mouthpiece was either an early Goldbeck or Kaspar that was finished with the inlay on a Buffett Chedeville mouthpiece. I got the mouthpiece back yesterday from Brad and was amazed at the quality of his work. He had to reface the silver inlay as well as redo the baffle and it was beautifully finished. The mouthpiece now plays beautifully and Brad was able to turnaround this mouthpiece for me in 2 weeks. I know that there are other good mouthpiece refacers out there for us to have our mouthpieces redone but Brad is truly one of the very great ones.

I would be very interested in knowing any other clarinetists that have a mouthpiece with a silver inlay and finding out their playing experiences and any history on these mouthpieces.

Thanks!

Rick

In one of his autobiographies, Jack Brymer wrote that a silver facing worked wonders on a mouthpiece on which the lay was so worn that there was no room to fix it.

I very much agree with high praises for Brad Behn!

Just today I spent 2 hours in his office as he refaced/revived 2 Chedeville mouthpieces for me. They USE TO BE sitting in a box...NOW, either one would be an excellent mouthpiece of choice! They now play better than they ever have for me!

After the mouthpieces were finished, I had the great pleasure of play-testing them by joining Brad in a duet jam session!

His work is of the highest quality and filled with an attitude of service for his customers.

Thanks,
