Has anyone heard Paul Meyer latest recording of the Spohr concerti?
I am generally not a big fan of the virtuosic stuff for the sake of virtuosity, but this is quite impressive.
I don't think he uses any modern techniques such as circular breathing or double tonguing, and it's some phenomenal technique and control.
It's on the Alpha label and is availavle on the Naxos Music Library site for those of you who have access to it.

I also like the Spohr concerti recordings made by him. He has a very specific and unique musical concept while being traditional at the same time. I like his phrasing and tone control as well.

I like the Ottensamer's version, he has a nice sound in high register and a wonderful technique. I never head Karl Leister's version, but some friends said to me its nice too!

Ottensamer's recordings are excellent too, but he has a different approach. Regarding Leister, I admire his tone and technique, but he's playing wrong rhythms eg. in the Eb major concerto's 1st movement. He simply ignors the score at some point and this isn't justified by any musical concept.

I'm a big fan of Karl Leister's version. Antony Pay's version is available on i-tunes, it's fantastic.

I recently bought these and they at generally very good. I aplaud Paul for also directing the Chamber Orchestra, no mean feat in these I'm sure.
While there is quite a lot of musicality especially in the slow movements (2 concerto comes to mind) the outer movements are just a case to show off Paul's vurtuosity for the sake of musicality. While this appeals to many I for one for rather hear a performer who is more sensitive. It is just virtuosity for the sake of virtuosity. There is so much more in these if one takes the time to study the scores. For me Michael Collins strikes the right balance, while being totally comfortable with the demands of three concerti he also makes music.

moi aussi j'aime le style de meyer d'ailleurs je le suis depuis ses débuts néanmoins, sylvain , tu devrais ecouter une intérprétation par karl Leister chez Orfeo du n°1 et 4 , c'est envoûtant .
