Hello all. I've been looking at a variety of different clarinets. Mostly buffets because i have had the best luck with buffets. I am looking to buy a new clarinet coming up. I was looking at either a Tosca or an R13 Prestige or RC Prestige. Any comments on the above clarinets?

It depends on you and what you need in a new clarinet. Your best bet is to try them all... and as many of each model as possible.

My new R13 Prestige is a gem, the best I've ever played, and at a good price from Matthew's Musiek nl. In the factory, like all the several R13s I've bought new, the springs are set too stiff and all the rings are set too high. I had no opportunity to try it before buying it, which everyone says to do, but where do you find Prestige R13s sitting around waiting to be fondled, even in large cities? You could get a mail order house to send you some but you would be out a lot of postage and insurance money, however. Good luck!

I also recommend Lisa's Clarinet Shop (Lisa Canning) as a great resource for excellant clarinets. She is a talented clarinetist and selects only the best instruments from the Buffet facility in Jacksonville for sale. Lisa also works closely with CSO second clarinetist, Gregory Smith, mouthpiece and barrel manufacturer--who, btw, trusts her to select clarinets for his personal use in the orchestra. If you are unsure of "what" to look for in a new clarinet, Lisa Canning can be of great help to you.
I've bought many instruments and accessories from Lisa and have never been disapointed. And no, I do not receive compensation for these nice words--although I did get a free box of bass clarinet reeds once (after I bought a Buffet bass, lol).
