It's literally a tring - or shoelace. There's a number of postings right here on the BBoard. Do a search and you'll find what you need.

Hi. I personally use shoestrings as ligatures. All you need is a 27". Cut off one end a bit before the plastic area begins, then bond the frayed strings by holding an open flame (use a lighter). From there, just wrap the string around the mouthpiece until you figure out which is the best way to use it. Good luck.

I bought it last time at the haberdashery department store (even in Germany! - available in differnet colors). I try to translate: sateen twine ("Atlaskordel"), 2 mm diameter, 60 % cotton ("Baumwolle"), 40 % Viscose - length approx. 1.6 meter
Make a knodt at each end (and shorten it, if it's still too long).
Take care the front loops (towards the tip) ar NOT TOO WEAK (this usually doesn't work good).
It offers to you the control of the preassure the reed is fixed to the moutpiece - drawn over the length you may call it "front peak" (which I prefer), "plateau" or "twin peak" (and avoid "rear peak"!)
