In your opinion, what are the "warhorses" for clarinet? Like Dvorak concerto for cellists and tchaikovsky concerto for violinists.
I think Debussy rhapsody, Brahms sonatas, schumann fantasy and Mozart concerto are "warhorses", maybe Nielson concerto too? I dont know about Weber concertos, i like them but alot of clarinetists dont like.

Something to consider is that a lot of the fine clarinet music depends 50% or more on your colleague at the piano. The Brahms sonatas and the Schumann Fantasy Pieces are two from your list (particularly the Brahms) that are beyond the reach of most "pianists." The von Weber Grand Duo Concertant is another.

For not much money, you can pick up "Masterworks for Clarinet and Piano," that has these pieces and others the "lean on" the pianist.

Uh, yes, the Webers (1 + 2 + Concertino + GDC, etc.) definitely fall into the category of war horses.

Along with Poulenc Sonata. Probably not the Nielsen. Maybe the Saint-Saens Sonata. I don't know...search the archives, there's all sorts of lists of the major clarinet pieces that board posters have put here over the years.

Considering how often they're discussed here, the Finzi 5 Bagatelles and Jacob 5 Pieces might count as 'warhorses'. Opinion is somewhat divided as to the quality of these pieces however.

Moving farther afield, the Mozart and Brahms quintets, and to a lesser extent the Weber quintet, would qualify as 'warhorses' as well. O and don't forget the Copland concerto.

I'd like to hear about YOUR experiences in getting a string quartet together to learn and play the Mozart, Brahms, von Weber, ... clarinet quintets.

I'll start: Fuggeddabgoudit.

Maybe. By my definitio, just because it's "difficult" doesn't make it a warhorse. Just because something isn't played a gazillion times doesn't either. I would say that for orchestra, Russlan and Lyudmilla is a warhorse and is played frequently. Overture to the Bartered Bride - same thing but not played nearly as frequently.

Francaix is difficult to be sure. But a warhorse? I guess it depends on you're definition...

What is a "War Horse?"

Here's the Webster definition:

1. (in historical contexts) A large, powerful horse ridden in a battle.
2. An elderly person such as a soldier, politician, or sports player who has fought many campaigns or contests.

In context of the first, maybe Francaix, maybe not. Is it powerful? Does it quintessentially define the clarinet and speak to the masses - powerful in a more ethereal sense? By the second definition it's a piece that's played often and stood the test of time. I wouldn't put Francaix there.

I'd definitely put Copeland in that category!

Semantics, semantics, semantics.
