I am just curious to see what anyone's thought are about the idea of a ligature constructed of aluminum.

It may need to be made of fairly thick gauge aluminium (at least 1.5mm thick) to reduce the risk of breaking or work hardening, so that could make it inflexible. If it does break, then it won't be as easily repairable as a brass or nickel silver ligature.
Will it be made from extruded or machined aluminium?

Perfectly feasible, but to what purpose?
RIA (Italy) used to make aluminum sax mouthpieces, similar in design otherwise to Berg Larsens, I had a couple myself. They were nothing special playing-wise, and were too easy to scratch, dent or ding. They discontinued the line after a couple of years.

I made a few myself for my own use some years back, but I found them to be fiddly and fragile. Aluminium does not have characteristics which work well where flexibility is a requirement, and the screw threads were far too fragile for continuous use and tended to bind. I abandoned using them fairly soon. I made a much better one from stainless steel.

I have designed a ligature and am in the process of getting prototypes produced. I wasn't sure of what material to use and aluminum was what was handy in the shop. If they don't work out I'll just have them try something else, I had plastic in mind.
