2 weeks and counting till opening night of Fiddler on the Roof. I'm playing the clarinet/bass clarinet part (not the clarinet part w/ all the solos and the bottle dance, etc). our first rehearsal w/ the cast is tomorrow night when we start running the show, just act I tomorrow. I just got home from rehearsal, and well, i have some work to do. Just out of curiosity, has anybody here ever played the 2nd clarinet/bass clarinet part before for Fiddler? i'd just like some comments about it....

I reckon that bottle dance is one of the most stylish passages ever written for clarinet.

Three cheers for Fiddler! My highschool's production goes up this Thursday. I'll be on stage though. I dance the bottle dance, but when I hear the solo it makes me wish I was in the pit instead. Fun stuff! Anyway, good luck.

Jason, I was in nearly the same situation last year. Break a leg, but stay balanced.
I'm a clarinetist and my school did Fiddler last year but I was in the company. During that dance, everyone was holding their breath. We only broke one bottle in performance (they were real), which transformed the whole thing into the Broom Dance. But our dancers were all female- the only guy who could dance was playing Perchik.
This year, I'm in the middle of playing 1st clarinet for Bye Bye Birdie. The Shriner's Ballet is fairly similar to the Bottle Dance (but not quite as neat), and it's a terrifying part- I'm all alone! We did three shows last weekend with four more to go next weekend.
